I love Friday 13th; it's always been a lucky day for me, another reason why I ended up writing books about murderers and wrong-doers I guess.
(Other reasons include: the comic book Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, the poem The Mewlips and the classic Hound of the Baskervilles.)
Saturday the 14th however, always seems to undo all the great things which happen on the 13th and so the pattern goes this year.
Today I am off work, at home, being a good little scribe and being very productive. Tomorrow - Saturday - I have to be in work at 6am. 6AM! On a Saturday! How sucky is that? Answer: very.
But on the bright side, at least I'll get a little extra pocket money for Crimefest, which is now only 6 weeks away!
Yes, I'm getting a little excited.
There is a stellar line-up this year, as there have been most years, but my hero Lee Child will be in attendance. I've been lucky enough to meet Lee a few times now, but unlucky enough for him, on every occasion I've turned into a babbling, fan-girl mess who can barely string a sentence together, let alone make eye contact. This year I swear I'm gonne be cool!
Yeah right, who am I kidding? In school I was a swot, with glasses, whose Dad was a teacher. In the same school. Just when I got rid of the glasses I got braces. In times of stress I revert to teenage me. So apologies in advance Lee!
Although this year I have a plan! And that plan is, drum roll please.... Sunglasses and beer! The beer to give me courage, or have something to blame my appauling conversational skills on, and the sunglasses to hide behind. What's that you say? Crimefest occurs mainly indoors? Aw nuts. Plan aborted, back to the drawing board.
If anyone has any suggestions I'd welcome them, otherwise I think I'll just take my beer and hide behind someone. Or I may just tag along with Zoe Sharp. She's effortlessly cool, maybe I can be cool by association?
Right, I think I've waffled enough, back to the area of my life where I can be cool, create cool and play with really cool people; my writing.
Hey, I may be a bit of a geek in real life, but in my book world I can be whatever and whoever I want to be ;)
